A couple of weekends ago I was lucky enough to spend a few days exploring Seattle. We had gorgeous weather, so we were able to spend a lot of each day outside, wandering around. We fit so many things into our time there, but it didn’t feel rushed.

One of our first stops on the first day was the EMP, a music and cultural museum right beside the Space Needle. There were exhibits on Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Fantasy and Horror movies, and Star Wars costumes. It was really interesting, I loved the Nirvana exhibit, and seeing Jimi Hendrix’s passport was awesome.

Also, they had Sirius Black’s coat from Harry Potter, and Jarrett’s entire outfit from the Labyrinth, probably the greatest movie ever made, and the cappuccino’s in the restaurant were amazing.

They had an exhibit on Chuck Jones, a longtime animator for WB who was responsible for a lot of the Loony Tunes cartoons. He had a quote that I really liked, “All worthwhile endeavors are 90% work and 10% love, and only the love should show.”

    • white trash beautiful

For our anniversary a few weeks ago we went to see ZZ Top, Uncle Kracker and Kid Rock at the Shoreline in San Jose. It was, as my boss pointed out “The Most White Trash Concert I’ve Ever Heard Of”. It was really fun, people were dancing in the aisles and singing at the top of their lungs and they were selling tall cans of Bud Light Lime-arita. Legit.

ZZ Top was the best of the 3, they have the most amazingly deep voices, and the combination of that many sequins with that much beard has probably never been seen since or again.

Sadly my camera was confiscated as soon as I walked through the gate so I only had my phone to take pictures with and it wasn’t really up to the task, but I did get to wear my leather pants with my motorcycle boots without feeling like I was going trick or treating, so I’m going to call that a win.

    • breaking up is hard to do

Posted at 11:12 pm by jasminedesirees, on August 6, 2013

I saw this video last year, and it really stuck with me. This couple was together for 5 years, and they are breaking up because he wants kids, and she doesn’t. They wrote a song together to break it to their friends and family, and explain the situation.

Even though it’s sad, you can tell they still really love each other, but they just know that sometimes, that’s not all there is to it. If they stayed together, one of them would eventually resent the other one because they weren’t able to do what they really wanted to do.

If you love someone, you want them to have the best life, and have everything they want, even if it means that you can’t be together.

“You must understand that love never keeps a man from pursuing his destiny. If he abandons that pursuit, it’s because, it wasn’t true love…”- The Alchemist.

This video will at the same time warm your heart, and also make you feel like you’re wasting your life. These kids are from a very poor village in Paraguay that is built on a landfill, but instead of feeling sorry for themselves, they are learning to play beautiful classical music on instruments made out of recycled trash.

The cello at :54 seconds in gave me chills. It’s pretty amazing.

    • tonight will be fine

Posted at 5:43 pm by jasminedesirees, on April 23, 2013

Last Friday night I was lucky enough to see Lucero in concert at the Fillmore again, I saw them last year too. We had a great night, stopping for tacos and margaritas at Tacolicious beforehand, and the concert was a blast.

Lucero was awesome as usual, and I really enjoyed their opening band Langhorn Slim and the Law, especially “Do You Believe in Past Lives?” and their Leonard Cohen cover “Tonight Will be Fine”.

I love going to the Fillmore, it has so much musical history, and such a neat vibe, it just feels like a really special place.

Tonight I’m going to see my favourite band, Lucero, at the Fillmore. I bought tickets in February, and have pretty much had to forget about it because whenever I think about it I get too excited to do anything else.

I don’t remember the day, but I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard them. I was sitting on the chair at my desk in our first apartment in Hawaii, and my roomie’s boyfriend was downloading random songs, and came across one of their albums.

As soon as he started playing Here at the Starlight, I got a tingle from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. I loved them immediately. By the time I had listened to My Best Girl, and Night’s Like These, it was over for me. That was about 4 years ago, and since then they have gotten me through every sadness, every heartbreak, homesickness and sleepless night, and every rainy day.

When I moved to California, and I had no friends, no job, no family and I missed the island so badly that I couldn’t sleep at night, I would put Lucero on my iPod on repeat, and let Ben sing me to sleep. It’s kind of funny how much of an effect you can have on someone else’s life without even knowing it.

Here are some of my favourite Lucero lyrics:

“She had a weakness for writersAnd I was never that good at the words anyways”- Night’s Like These

“And I’ve only got this one wish, that I was good enough to make you forget the only boy who ever broke your heart”- Night’s Like These

“The light from the disco balls surround us with stars, and I looked like trouble right from the start. you told me so, yeah you told me so.”- Slow Dancing
“Life is short, in spite of your plans, so tell the girls they’re pretty while you can.”- Drink ’til We’re Gone
“Well it’s plain to see you’re a dangerous thing, with those hips, those lips, and those eyes, and it’s lucky for me that I like being free or I might try to make you mine.”- A Dangerous Thing
“well I’m a sucker for some pretty eyesbut they’re going home with some other boy tonighthell, i guess I’ll be fine’cause there’s one girl whose all mine.”- My Best Girl

“Now we got to the game just a little too late, spent our early days, we spent our early days just fucking up. We ain’t nobody’s darlings, we ain’t nobody’s boys.”- Nobody’s Darlings
