    • at first sight

Posted at 8:30 pm by jasminedesirees, on August 14, 2013

I heard from an old friend last night, and it was so nice. It’s easy to get busy with work and other things and not make as much effort to keep in touch, and before you know it, it’s been months or years since you’ve talked.

There are a lot of friends like that that I’ve made over the years, and then slowly, even though you still care about them and miss them, it gets harder and harder to keep in contact, as you know less and less about each other’s lives and actually getting on the phone and talking only makes that more obvious, and you start to doubt your friendship, and wonder if the other person even cares to hear from you anymore.

But then there are those people that you just click with, instantly. I don’t believe people only have one soul mate, and I don’t think that if you do have one, it necessarily needs to be romantic. There are just people in life that I have clicked with, sometimes honestly at first sight, and we’ve been friends ever since. And we’ll be friends forever because even if I never spoke to them again in my life, I know we’d still feel exactly the same way about each other.

Those are the kinds of friends that even if you don’t know the name of their dog, or even their address, you could see them after 10 years of not talking and pick up exactly where you left off, and those are the kinds of friends I am lucky enough to have.

    • breaking up is hard to do

Posted at 11:12 pm by jasminedesirees, on August 6, 2013

I saw this video last year, and it really stuck with me. This couple was together for 5 years, and they are breaking up because he wants kids, and she doesn’t. They wrote a song together to break it to their friends and family, and explain the situation.

Even though it’s sad, you can tell they still really love each other, but they just know that sometimes, that’s not all there is to it. If they stayed together, one of them would eventually resent the other one because they weren’t able to do what they really wanted to do.

If you love someone, you want them to have the best life, and have everything they want, even if it means that you can’t be together.

“You must understand that love never keeps a man from pursuing his destiny. If he abandons that pursuit, it’s because, it wasn’t true love…”- The Alchemist.

Our first wedding anniversary is on Sunday. I can’t believe it’s been a year already, it was such a fun weekend, and since I’m from Canada, and Derek is from California, and I met most of my best friends in Hawaii, it is probably the only time I’ll ever have all of my favourite people in one place, so it was really special to me.

I’ve always heard that your wedding day is really stressful, and that everything is going to go all wrong no matter how much work you put into it (thanks mom!), so when the caterer was an hour and a half late, and I spilled a bottle of red wine down my dress 10 minutes after the ceremony, I honestly didn’t even care. It was the best day.

I really don’t think anything has changed between Derek and I since we got married, things are basically the same, and we have a lot of fun together, so I guess I’ll keep him around for another year, if he is lucky.

Today I am wishing a happy birthday to my beautiful, wonderful mother. She is constantly setting goals for herself, and works hard to achieve them, never taking no for an answer. She insists on having a good time no matter what she is doing, and she is always taking care of other people.

Whether she is getting her motorcycle license, running a marathon, or hiking the Grand Canyon, she isn’t afraid to try new things. Also, she is probably the best dancer I know. I remember when I was little, I couldn’t wait to grow up and get big so that I could party with her, I always thought her and my dad were so much more fun than any other adults I knew.

So happy birthday Billie Jean, thanks for being so adventurous and feisty, and showing us all that anything is possible with dedication, a positive attitude, and the promise of a margarita at the finish line.

    • you are my best three years

Posted at 5:25 pm by jasminedesirees, on February 7, 2013

Three years ago today I watched a boy walking across the room towards me with the warmest smile and the biggest brown eyes I’d ever seen. Now, I’m lucky enough to wake up beside him every day.

Thank you for making me smile when I would rather be sad, for letting me put my cold toes on you sometimes, and for taking the empty toothpaste and leaving the full one for me.

Thank you for always supporting me in anything I choose to do, no matter how silly or crazy it may seem. Whether it be starting a blog, deciding to run a marathon, or trying to pack us up and move us to Australia, knowing your answer will always be some version of “let’s do it” makes it so much easier for me to try for all the things I want to do, and I hope I can always support you the same way.

The last year and a half, especially has been pretty tumultuous, and through all of it you have been unfailingly hopeful, positive, and a constant source of strength for me, even with everything else you had going on. I’m so proud of all you have accomplished, and I know there are lots of good things ahead for you, and for us, together.

Thank you for the last 3 years, here is to at least 3 more. errrrrr, kidding! I love you madly, xx.

      Probably my favourite picture, ever.
