    • agenda

Posted at 11:19 am by jasminedesirees, on June 3, 2014

Our daily agenda in Montana is some variation on the following:

9am: Creep leisurely out of bed for coffee, mimosas and fruit on the deck

10:30am: Six mile run with my mom. We’ve been doing the same route for 5 years. Six miles in California would almost kill me, but here it’s no big deal. Perhaps it’s the omnipresent threat of bears.

1:00pm: Lunch, either BBQ’d burgers or scavenged leftovers

2:00pm: Twisted tea and margaritas on the dock, then out in the boat for tubing, surfing and wakeboarding.

      6:30pm: Sundrunk naps

7:30pm: Wine and pre-dinner appetizers on the deck

8:30pm: Supper time, either cooking at home or in to town to a restaurant

10:00pm: Drinking games (we just got this one) or relaxing by the campfire

I love it here, I’m never leaving, you can’t make me.

Noticeably absent from the agenda? Pedicures. There is no grooming at the lake.

Writing this from the deck of my parents cabin in Montana.

My whole family is here, I’ve got a Caesar in my hand, and baked brie in the oven.

There is literally nothing else I could want at this moment.

My most recent trip to Montana. I hadn’t seen my niece and nephew since Thanksgiving last year, so it was so much fun to hang out with them. We spent tons of time out on the boat, and just relaxed. I’m pretty sure Montana is my favourite place in the world, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up living there one day.

More pictures from our July 4th Montana trip. So excited to go back in August, and next time my big sister is coming and bring her two kids, aka my favourite people in the world.

Mom’s Hawaiian martinis. The drink is delicious, the pineapple tastes like paint thinner

I’m back in California after 5 days of luscious relaxation. If there is anything better than being surrounded by your favourite people out on the water with good music and tasty drinks, I haven’t found it yet.

They say you can’t buy happiness, but you can buy tickets to Montana in the summer, and that’s pretty much the same thing.

We booked our tickets for Fourth of July in Montana, I am way too excited.

Boating, swimming, margaritas, twisted tea, smores, dill pickle dip, early morning runs with my mom, goldfish races, dancing with bearded, over-alled men (is there any other kind?) at Homesteaders and huckleberry cheesecake blizzards with extra cheesecake, and doing all of these things with my most favourite people.

      But mostly, this:

      He will eat your face

He just could not be less excited to be wearing that. But, safety first. And by that I mean of course, safety for the rest of us, because if he falls into the water (aka is thrown in by my dad) and you happen to accidentally get between him and shore, or getting back in the boat, he will scratch you bald headed.

Can not wait. Only 3 more weeks.

    • Wedding Bell Blues

Posted at 6:44 pm by jasminedesirees, on December 6, 2012
I planned my wedding by myself (with help from my fabulous mother and some inspiration from Pinterest), from across the country. It was a bit stressful, but it really wasn’t bad, especially with the wonders of online shopping.
We didn’t have a huge budget, luckily we were able to have the ceremony and reception at my parents’ lake house, which really cut down on costs, but I’ve also never been someone who would want to spend $25,000 on a wedding. Yes, it is a very special day, but wouldn’t you rather put that money towards, say an insane honeymoon trip around the world, or the down payment on a house?
With a little bit of time and effort, I was able to get everything I wanted, and not break the bank.

I ordered our flowers (white roses) from Costco. You can order them in bulk, they showed up two days before and we all made our own bouquets and my mom and aunts made flower arrangements for the tables.

      I am so tan

We had a ton of flowers, 200 white roses for around $160.00. I had also been collecting new and vintage brooches for a few months before the wedding, and added them into my bouquet for a bit of sparkle and uniqueness.

I was a bit stuck on what to get for favours, it seemed like a waste of money to give people something just to give them something. I thought about doing edible favours, like baskets of cherries, or homemade chocolate chip cookies (thankfully my sister talked me out of that with a little common sense about what happens to chocolate left sitting out in the 100 degree July heat), but settled on handled mason jar drinking glasses, which could serve a dual purpose as favours, and also let me get away with not buying or renting glasses for the guests.

I searched for quite awhile to find these at a reasonable price, a lot of the time the shipping was twice as much as the glasses themselves ($300 for shipping, seriously?) but finally found some from BarProducts, Inc. It was $200, shipping included, for 150 glasses. I bought cute favour tags on Etsy, and I couldn’t have been happier with the result.

Since the wedding was in Montana, we continued the rustic theme into the centerpieces, using slabs of cut wood as the base (thanks Dad!) and placing different sizes of mason jars with white candles on top. It was simple and beautiful, and fit the atmosphere perfectly.

We made our own cupcakes, with fondant flowers from Pfeil and Holing, and my very talented friend Amanda made and decorated a cake for us to cut.

I toyed with the idea of getting a vintage typewriter for our guest book, I’ve always wanted one, and I figured it would be my wedding present to myself, but then I thought about how much I loved playing with them when I was little, and realized we were going to have a lot of kids at our wedding. I had a horrible vision of going to read our guest book only to discover it was nothing more than pages upon pages of unreadable typewriter text.

I decided to get a vintage suitcase instead, and I found one on Etsy with a gorgeous purple lining. I knew it would be great for our wedding, and also serve as a wonderfully decorative addition to our home afterwards.

I also found some vintage black and white postcards on Etsy, and had the guests write us a postcard and leave it in the suitcase, along with any cards we received.
I plan to put the postcards in a photo album with our wedding pictures, as a fun keepsake from a wonderful day.

A few more special details were this handkerchief for my flower girl, and this cape and ornate glass box for our ring bearer.

Our wedding photos came in the other day, and I’m having so much fun going through them. On the day of the wedding, it felt like we were taking pictures forever, but I am sooo happy with how they turned out. There are tons of pictures to go through, but here are a few of my favourites so far:
Love the bold colours against the rustic wood doors

Our photos were taken by Awna Irish, at Inspiring Bliss Photography. She is extremely talented, and did a wonderful job of not only capturing all of the most important moments, but adding in her own unique creativeness to make the pictures extra special.
