Ever since I moved to the Bay area I’ve been hearing about the farmer’s market at the Ferry Building in San Francisco on Saturdays.

I finally got the chance to go last weekend, and it was pretty awesome. We ate ourselves sick on cheese and fruit samples, I finally got to try Cowgirl Creamery cheese (get the Redhawk, just do it) and then we bought a bottle of wine and some snacks and just people watched and enjoyed the video.

Sadly, we had plans afterward so I couldn’t really buy anything to take home, but it was probably best as I’m not sure that anybody really needs a $24 dollar jar of artisanal nectarine chutney (whenever I hear chutney in my head it’s always in the voice of Schmidt from New Girl).

      ommmm nom nom
It was such a beautiful day, I had an actual physical craving to buy sunflowers
lavendar soda, I was intrigued, but mostly I just wanted the bottle
not gonna lie, we ate all of this.

More pictures from our July 4th Montana trip. So excited to go back in August, and next time my big sister is coming and bring her two kids, aka my favourite people in the world.

Mom’s Hawaiian martinis. The drink is delicious, the pineapple tastes like paint thinner

It’s been a super busy week at work, today was the first day that I was actually able to take a lunch break, I blame you, Comic Con.

Today is a gorgeous day in the city and I was super hungry so I decided to go out for a walk and see what I could scrounge up for snacks. I’ve been working in the same place for a year now, but I hardly ever eat out at lunch so when I do I tend to just run to the same place every time. Boringggg.

While I was out wandering I came across an art supply store so I poked my head inside to look around, hoping that my lack of paint splattered overalls and thick rimmed glasses wouldn’t give me away as a complete art store newb. I’ve been wanting to take more art classes for a while now, but it never seems to work out, they are always during the week day? Who is taking art classes on a week day afternoon? Jealous.

I ended up buying a bunch of stuff that I don’t really know how to use, but I’m going to have lots of fun experimenting. The colours were so pretty, and I harbour a secret suspicion that I am actually a masterfully spectacular artist, and the only reason my talent has remained hidden for so long is my lack of access to pastels.

And I never did end up getting lunch.

I don’t know what I would make with this. Probably a snow man. But it’s beautiful.

I’m back in California after 5 days of luscious relaxation. If there is anything better than being surrounded by your favourite people out on the water with good music and tasty drinks, I haven’t found it yet.

They say you can’t buy happiness, but you can buy tickets to Montana in the summer, and that’s pretty much the same thing.

A few weekends ago a group of us went wine tasting for one of my friends’ birthdays. It was a beautiful day, and we had lots of fun. We went in Livermore, to 3 different wineries, and I discovered that at a lot of the smaller vineyards, the people that work in the tasting rooms are volunteers, and they get paid in wine.

So I’ve definitely found my future career path. Out of all the wineries we went to, 3 Steve’s in Livermore was my favourite, it was across the courtyard from Tap 25, which had beer tasting for the boys, and the owners were very friendly and knowledgeable. They kept refilling our glasses and chatting with us long after our tasting was over.

Possibly as a direct result of this, I decided it would be a good idea to do beer tasting next door. I really don’t like beer, so in a cruel twist of fate, all of the beers I picked to try were sold out, so they would give me an extra beer to make it up to me, and I ended up with 8 or 9 glasses of beer to drink, and I didn’t like any of them so I had to keep foisting them off on some unsuspecting gents at the end of the bar.

It was a super fun day, and I’d like to go again immediately, and also every day thereafter.

basically an engagement photo of us two
this is Bill, he is from Kansas, and he helped me pick out all of my (gross) beers

A few days ago in San Francisco there was a protest in front of the Union Street Victoria’s Secret store. Women of all shapes and sizes showed up in their bras and undies with signs to protest the lack of body diversity displayed by the store, and by other retailers as well.

I think it’s pretty awesome that these people were brave enough to show up and stand up for what they believe in, and to do it in such a fun and bold way.

It’s not just the lack of body diversity shown by the models that’s a problem at Victoria’s Secret. I worked there for a few months (I was a bra specialist, NBD) and I always thought it was very strange that a company claims to be “all about bras”, that they don’t carry a more diverse range of sizes. I was constantly having to turn people away that were willing to come in there and spend $50 to $100 on one bra, because we didn’t carry their size.

And these were not all very large women either, as bra specialists, we were required to try on all the bras that come in so we could be familiar enough with them to sell them, and most of the bras that they sell didn’t fit me either.

Victoria’s Secret has an opportunity to be a really strong advocate for all women, to make them feel beautiful and sexy, and also to tap into a whole new market for their products, women who are constantly searching for beautiful, comfortable bras that fit properly, and they are really missing the boat.

      Full story here.

      Dear California,

It’s been two years since I left my old state to come be with you. People warned me about you, and told me things like “You won’t like it there, people are rude”, or “Seriously, you’ll never be able to drive there, everyone has road rage,” but I ignored them and jumped in head first.

The honeymoon period was great, it was all trips to Disneyland, Long Beach and Capitola, “Here have some more cherries”, and “Want to go wine tasting?”. But once it was over, and real life began, things got a little shaky in that I hated you and would stay up late at night crying over my ex (state).

We’ve had our ups and downs, but as a wise man once said “You can’t force somebody to love you, all you can do is stalk them until they panic and give in.” It took some time (about a year) but you’ve definitely grown on me, and now we have a bond that will last forever. Or at least for one more year, whichever comes first.

      xoxo,

      Jasmine

We booked our tickets for Fourth of July in Montana, I am way too excited.

Boating, swimming, margaritas, twisted tea, smores, dill pickle dip, early morning runs with my mom, goldfish races, dancing with bearded, over-alled men (is there any other kind?) at Homesteaders and huckleberry cheesecake blizzards with extra cheesecake, and doing all of these things with my most favourite people.

      But mostly, this:

      He will eat your face

He just could not be less excited to be wearing that. But, safety first. And by that I mean of course, safety for the rest of us, because if he falls into the water (aka is thrown in by my dad) and you happen to accidentally get between him and shore, or getting back in the boat, he will scratch you bald headed.

Can not wait. Only 3 more weeks.

My friend Paula is very artistic, she is a talented artist and photographer. She took these pictures of Derek and I:

She is currently battling thyroid cancer, and raising money while she gets treatment by selling beautiful hand-painted hats like these:

She does a lot of Hawaiian themed ones, but she is a very talented artist, and can do any design you can think of. She is very collaborative, working with you to develop the idea and make sure you are completely in love with the finished product.

You can order one for yourself here.

A few weekends ago Derek had to work, and I didn’t have any plans. The pool wasn’t open yet,  but it was really nice out, and I felt like getting out of the house.

I decided to drive a few miles to the next town over and grab some breakfast, and visit a little park I had spotted the weekend before. At the park, I saw signs for a walking path, and decided to follow it.

After about a mile, I came around a corner, and saw a beautiful view of the bay, and the walking path continued along the beach to a lookout point. There were a lot of couples out walking, and kids riding their bikes.

I am so glad I decided to go exploring, it’s amazing what can be right in our own backyards without us even noticing.
