Posted at 5:09 pm by jasminedesirees, on March 25, 2013

I bake a lot, especially lately. But I have to be honest, these are the best thing I’ve made in a long, long time. Delicious chocolatey truffles with an Oreo cookie crust and fresh raspberries, these got rave reviews from everyone that tried one. I will definitely be making these again.

they didn’t have Oreo crumbs so I had to get creative and crush up Oreo pie crusts

I can neither confirm nor deny rumours of second degree burns from melted chocolate

      Oreo cookie crusts with raspberries…

      Then add melted chocolate…
And demolish. Seriously, these were amazing.

    • birthday roundup

Posted at 4:10 pm by jasminedesirees, on March 19, 2013

Friday was my birthday, as you probably know by now. I had such a wonderful day. I woke up to presents and kisses from Derek, had supermarket birthday cake for breakfast, and then went to work where I had cards, peanuts m&m’s, chocolate croissant, and macaroons waiting for me.

I went out to lunch with a group of my wonderful coworkers and had the best margarita of my life, followed by cupcakes in the afternoon.

Derek picked me up after work and we went to little Italy, to an Italian restaurant called Firenze, where I had seriously amazing ravioli. After supper we got cappuccino’s and wandered around North Beach, and stopped at an adorable little candy shop.

On the way home, we stopped on Treasure Island to see the new light exhibit that is up on the Bay Bridge. It was pretty neat, but I think you can see it better from the city side, so I’ll have to check it out on Thursday when my parents come to town.

I had such a wonderful day, thanks to everyone who celebrated with me.

      all things birthday

    • banana chocolate chip

Posted at 4:34 pm by jasminedesirees, on February 28, 2013

There isn’t much in this world I hate more than I hate bananas. Apparently (according to my mother) from the time I was old enough to eat solid food, I’ve had a unique hatred that borders on phobia, and refused to have anything to do with them.

I personally think it’s a texture thing, since they don’t really have an overpoweringly strong smell or taste to them, and I was intrigued when I recently came across this recipe, and decided to test that theory.

The basic premise is that you make pancakes with just one banana and one egg, rather than unhealthy pancake batter. I also added a little pinch of salt to add a little depth to the flavour.

I wasn’t expecting much from this recipe (I also hate pancakes, and refuse to eat them except as a vehicle to consume large amounts of chocolate for breakfast) but it was actually really delicious. It didn’t taste like bananas, and the texture was very pancake-ish.

      It’s a very simple recipe

      Mash up the banana…

Add one egg and a pinch of salt and beat

Cook like you would a regular pancake, with a tiny bit of oil or cooking spray

Add chocolate chips (or blueberries, nuts, etc) and flip

      Put on a plate

Demolish in 5 seconds flat (with Derek’s help)

I will definitely be making these again as a “healthy” snack or for breakfast. I also think they would be good with a dash of cinnamon and vanilla, and then served with sugar free syrup and a sprinkle of icing sugar, like french toast without the bread or the frenchness.

    • sweets for my sweeties

Posted at 10:34 pm by jasminedesirees, on February 15, 2013

I tend to over-do things. It is one of my best/worst qualities in my opinion. Sometimes I procrastinate, sometimes I will put something off for months or years, but the second I decide that I’m really going to do something, I’m all in, and it needs to happen NOW.

For example, I’ll go years thinking to myself “I think leopard shoes are cute, maybe I should get a pair”, but doing nothing about it. Then one day I will see someone wearing them, or something that would look cute with them and THAT’S IT. I am buying leopard shoes that day, come hell or high water, even if they are wildly expensive, or not even close to the ones I wanted, or two sizes too small. It’s happening.

That zeal can come in handy, though, especially when it comes to holidays. I know Valentine’s Day can be kind of cheesy and commercial, but really what’s wrong with telling your favourite people that you kind of like them, a little bit, some days?

I wanted to send my niece and nephew a ginormous box full of candy, which I’m pretty sure would put me firmly in the running for auntie of the year, but I suspect it might also make me a prime candidate for worst sister ever, so I broke the sugar up a bit with some toys.

package of love for my niece and nephew

A little love for the boy:

he is obsessed with Reece’s peanut butter cups. it’s a problem.

I saw board’s like this on Etsy for $75.00. This one cost me about $6 to make. Ignore my serial killer handwriting.

      And:

Back to elementary school- Valentine’s for my co-workers

    • death by chocolate

Posted at 9:19 pm by jasminedesirees, on February 14, 2013

We are having a dessert buffet at work today. It’s kind of depressing how excited I am for this, but once I saw all the delicious things that everyone brought in, I realized I wasn’t even as excited as I should have been.

      oreo cheesecakes

      chocolate covered oreos

      chocolate fondue…mmmm

This is about to be me:

You can just call me Augustus Gloop.

    • happy love day

Posted at 4:25 pm by jasminedesirees, on February 14, 2013
Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope everyone gets a ton of kisses, or a ton of chocolate, and if you’re really lucky, both at the same time.

We are going to Sausalito for supper, it’s one of my favourite little towns in the Bay area, and keeping it low key since we are off to LA this weekend. I officially finished my “cleanse” two days ago, so I’m super excited to eat pasta for the first time in almost a month!

It’s going to be just like this, with hopefully the exact same number of mustaches and accordions.

A few of the things make me happy right now:

Cadbury Dairy Milk: I’ve eaten a lot of chocolate. I eat chocolate almost every day. And out of all of it, the cheap and very expensive kinds I’ve tried, this is by far the best. You could easily devour the entire thing in a matter of minutes. Which I never do. And certainly not yesterday since I will be spending the better part of the next 2 weeks in a bikini. Obviously.

      Sunset over the bay:

Christmas lights: I got home from work last Friday to find a twinkly surprise over my garage door.

It’s nothing too crazy, but we are the only ones in our whole neighbourhood that put up any lights at all so we won the Christmas decoration battle, if only be default.

But we have a bit of work to do if we want to beat these guys:

      Also, this.

    • puppy chow

Posted at 4:14 pm by jasminedesirees, on December 11, 2012
It truly isn’t Christmas for me if I haven’t gotten at least 3 stomach aches from overconsumption of puppy chow. This week I made a massive batch so I can give some out to people that I like.

Only 4 ingredients, that means it’s healthy, right?
Or keep it and eat all of it myself, I’m still on the fence. I used this recipe. If you’ve never made it before, try it.

I want to be in you
It’s very simple, extremely delicious and addictive to the point of worry. It is food crack, as evidenced by the fact that I couldn’t wait for it to cool and ended up with a pretty severe chocolate burn on my fingers.

      Enjoy!

    • fiddle diddles.

Posted at 6:02 pm by jasminedesirees, on December 5, 2012

It was such a miserable weekend that I needed a hefty dose of chocolatey goodness just to make it through, so I decided to make some Fiddle Diddles.

I used this recipe, and these cookies are so fudgey, chewy and yummy that I’ve been eating these pretty much to the exclusion of everything else since Saturday.

Here are some of the best food quotes ever to get you through the rest of the day.

Things that are making me happy right now:

I am obsessively reading Game of Thrones on my Kindle, I’m on the 5th book and I only started them last month. I watched one episode of the show, but the characters didn’t match what I had in my head (I’ve decided Jon Snow is probably really, really, ridiculously good looking) so I’ve decided not to watch anymore until I’m finished with the books.

This is what Jon Snow looks like in my mind.

This glue pen which allows me to transform even the most mundane of writing tasks into sparkly, glittery wonderment. I have been using it to make my own birthday cards because I find Hallmark (and other brands) of greetings cards to be expensive, cheesy and pointless, and it is not uncommon for me to spend an hour in the card aisle in a cold sweat trying to decide which card best surmises how I feel about my husband’s mother’s best friends’ dog walker’s former room mate.

A Starbucks Mocha on a rainy, cold San Francisco morning. I wish it was an Espresso Truffle, but you can’t have everything in life.

My eggnog candle, it smells so good I want to eat it.
