    • death by chocolate

Posted at 9:19 pm by jasminedesirees, on February 14, 2013

We are having a dessert buffet at work today. It’s kind of depressing how excited I am for this, but once I saw all the delicious things that everyone brought in, I realized I wasn’t even as excited as I should have been.

      oreo cheesecakes

      chocolate covered oreos

      chocolate fondue…mmmm

This is about to be me:

You can just call me Augustus Gloop.

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope everyone gets a ton of kisses, or a ton of chocolate, and if you’re really lucky, both at the same time.

We are going to Sausalito for supper, it’s one of my favourite little towns in the Bay area, and keeping it low key since we are off to LA this weekend. I officially finished my “cleanse” two days ago, so I’m super excited to eat pasta for the first time in almost a month!

It’s going to be just like this, with hopefully the exact same number of mustaches and accordions.

Last Saturday we went to see The Nutcracker at the San Francisco Opera House. It was pretty much my dream date, I got to dress up, eat chocolate truffles, drink champagne and watch ballet dancers in glittery costumes twirling around.

The opera house was gorgeous, it was all marble and gold leaf everywhere. I almost took a picture of the bathroom vanity because I couldn’t remember the last time I had been in a public place with actual faucets, instead of the automatic kind, but I decided whipping out my camera in a public bathroom was at least awkward, or possibly ground for arrest.

We had planned on eating supper before the show, but we weren’t very hungry and decided to just get drinks and dessert.

The ballet was beautiful, somewhere around the Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy I finally decided that what I want to be when I grow up is a ballet dancer. I know they have adult classes in the area, I am sure I could be dancing the part of Clara by next Christmas. Probably.

    • honeybadger don’t give a kiss

Posted at 4:13 pm by jasminedesirees, on December 18, 2012

My work Christmas party was last Thursday, and I seriously had so much fun. In the afternoon I joined a team for The Amazing Race: Honeybadger Edition, which was basically a scavenger hunt all around San Francisco where we had clues and challenges to figure out, and we had to try to make it back to the office in the shortest time.

We were literally running all over the city like crazy people, sweating in ugly sweaters, wrapped in Christmas lights and wearing reindeer antlers, and it was a lot of fun. The great thing about this city is that there are so many crazily dressed and insane people wandering around all the time, that nobody even gave us a second look, it was pretty funny.

Later that evening we had a big party with food, drinks, ice sculptures and karaoke, and it was a blast. I got to meet a bunch of new people at the company, and party with my fellow AC’s. I absolutely love karaoke, I used to go to karaoke all the time in Hawaii, but I haven’t been since we moved here and I missed it.

      Oh Canada

I will take literally any excuse to sing “Piano Man” at the top of my lungs. The night ended with me singing a stirring rendition of the Canadian national anthem with the 2 other Canucks that work in our office.

My ugly sweater was a casualty of the evening, I can’t find it anywhere. Apparently I am destined to be forced to to hunt down a new one every year.

Last night we went out for supper in SF, then got Starbucks and went for a long walk before we went skating at the Embarcadero center.

      SF at Christmas

Skating was really fun, although they had “hockey skates” and I use the term loosely. They had absolutely no edge, and I kept waiting to crash head long into the boards and take 4 or 5 unlucky souls with me. I managed to stay upright but I really missed my picks, and regretted my decision not to bring my skates to California with me.

      Trying not to die

Here are few of my favourite things about this time of year:

      • skiing, skating, tobogganing, etc.
      • coming in out of the cold and warming your hands on a steaming mug of hot chocolate (see above)
      • it seems like people are nicer to each other, and go out of their way to help even complete strangers
      • finding the perfect gift for someone that you absolutely know they will love (extra points if it’s on sale)
      • all of the cookies (especially these), and other delicious treats
      • there is always an excuse for a party, cute new dress, or cocktail
      • holiday movies, especially Home Alone, and Love Actually
      • when you’re wrapping presents and you manage to cut all the way across the wrapping paper in one smooth line, without stopping and without ripping it. Success.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting this week because it is basically going to be an epic lineup of fun-ness and joy. Plans for this week include ice skating, putting up our Christmas lights, and frolicking.

Last night we went to the skating rink at the Embarcadero so I could show off my mad skater skills, also known as how I once picked myself in the armpit, and also ended up with a goose egg the size of a hockey puck on my forehead. But I can still shoot a mean duck, true story.

Tomorrow night is my Christmas party, so I will be decked out in all of my ugly sweater glory, and also probably this hat:

Friday night is Derek’s Christmas party, dinner, dancing and cocktails at a hotel in Marin and I get to wear my favourite dress and try not to make a fool of myself in front of high ranking military officials.

Saturday night is the Nutcracker, and I can’t wait. I am so excited for the show, for a night out in the city with my boy, and to wear my lovely new dress.

I currently have no plans for Sunday, but I can imagine they will involve a lot of this:

And also eating mass quantities of this.

    • a little sparkle and Specialty’s…

Posted at 7:55 pm by jasminedesirees, on November 22, 2012

I am hopefully snuggled up in the snowy wilderness of the GWN right now, but Happy Thanksgiving to all my Amerrrrrrrcan friends.

A Specialty’s chocolate chip cookie and some sparkle to brighten your day. Perfection.

    • hocus pocus

Posted at 4:18 pm by jasminedesirees, on October 31, 2012

Since I flat out refuse to watch scary movies ever since the time I was dragged into the midnight showing of Hostel and found myself sitting with a stranger’s jacket over my head crying for two straight hours, I’ve had to make my own Halloween traditions.

Halloween is not complete for me until I’ve dressed in a ridiculous costume, carved my pumpkin, watched Hocus Pocus, made molasses cookies and OD’d on Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups and Kit Kats to the point of sugar coma or vomiting.
I was able to knock out the first one on Saturday, and the second and third last night. After spending much of the day on the internet searching for a legendary pumpkin design idea that would proclaim me uncontested winner of our annual carving contest, I managed to once again turn out a pumpkin that looks exactly the same as my pumpkin from the year before, and also the year before that.

      Can you
      guess which
      pumpkin is
      mine?
As Halloween is tomorrow, I had to make these cookies tonight while simultaneously dying my hair, cooking supper and doing laundry, and without my rolling pin which has inexplicably disappeared, which will nicely free my day up tomorrow for mainlining chocolate like the unapologetic addict that I am.

      Happy Halloween!

    • Shake Your Tail Feather

Posted at 11:22 pm by jasminedesirees, on October 29, 2012
This weekend we went to a Halloween pub crawl in San Francisco with some friends, and had such a great time. I got to wear my peacock costume, and the feathers stayed on just fine, even with all of my crazy tail-feather shaking. I love to dance, and it has been way too long since I could show off my skills (or lack there-of).
He should always wear that hair, it was amazing

We started out at Bar None on Union St. and then made our way to Polk, and finished the night off on Fillmore, with a much needed stop at Extreme Pizza somewhere in there. This was my first time going out to the bars in San Francisco, and I had so much fun I’ll definitely be doing it again soon.

      Love them

Sunday was absolutely gorgeous, and as we were driving home I saw so many cute little restaurants, shops and farmers markets throughout the city. I am very excited to spend some more time exploring!
